Grant the King verwijst naar een Bijbelpassage, vermoedelijk uit een psalm, al is dat niet helemaal zeker. De tekst draait in elk geval om een gebed voor de koning: dat hij van God wijsheid mag ontvangen en zijn volk rechtvaardig en goed zal besturen. Tegelijk is het ook een oproep tot overgave en vertrouwen in God.
